Merry Christmas 2011

December 25, 2011

The past month has been spent getting ready for Christmas and spending time with family but I wanted to jump on and wish you all the merriest of Christmases and the happiest of holidays.  I am blessed to have a job that I adore, a family that supports and loves me and friends, both far and near, that make me smile.  I truly love this Christmas season and the opportunity to reflect on the gift of my Savior.  My heart is full.  Merry Christmas!

I know last month I said, “This project feels like Christmas morning every month when it rolls around.”.  But this month, it literally is almost Christmas morning! Even though Christmas has, yet again, snuck up on me this year, exposing the naked truth that I still have SO much to do in the next 13 days, I still feel the magic of this season.  It’s my favorite holiday because  there’s so much focus on joy, giving, family, and faith.  I love the lights and the tree and the beautiful music that can be heard everywhere you go.  I try sneak in moments when I’m alone to ponder the true meaning of Christmas and to reflect on what it might have been like on that Christmas Eve night so long ago.

So, for this month’s elevate project, I wanted to create something that would evoke some of those feelings associated with Christmas.  I’ve always wanted to play around with shaped bokeh so I used this project as a catalyst.  It’s really quite simple to create bokeh of any shape you wish.  All it takes are a few household items, your camera, lens, and a string of lights.  (It did also cost me a Lego set as bribery this month, but it was well worth it) If I were more organized I would include step-by-step instructions, but I’m not so here’s a link to the ones I used.

Please join me in visiting the amazing little circle of photographers who are exploring their own fine art projects this month, starting with Marianne Drenthe | Marmalade Photography  Chicago child and family photographer.

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Only 4 short weeks left of 2011 and of this project of ours.  It’s hard to believe.  So much to be thankful for.  How apropos that our theme this week is:

thankful

There were so many things I thought of shooting this week for our theme.  If I was being honest, I would have created a collage of all the things in my life that I hold dear and appreciate on a daily basis.  When we lost power yesterday from crazy strong winds, I was thankful for electricity.  Everyday while I drive my kids back and forth to school and their activities I am reminded how thankful I am for my tired mini van with it’s 100,000+ miles and its stained floor mats and worn seats.  Every night I’m thankful for our home that keeps us safe and warm and protected.  My friends are always at the top of my thankful list as are my mom and dad and sisters and husband.  I could go on and on, as I’m sure your list would be similar to mine.  But today I am posting pics of my kids because they are the reason that I’m thankful for an old mini van and what motivate me to get up everyday.  And, truth be told,  it also helps that I have some recent pictures of them that didn’t make the cut for this year’s cards and I wanted to share.

Next stop in our circle this week, the talented Maureen Wilson | Mccomb,Mississippi Photographer.

Last week I had the opportunity to take pictures during Danville Children’s Guild‘s Annual Fall Event at the beautiful Diablo Country Club.  The event benefited CASA of Contra Costa County.  I was impressed by the number of women from my community who came out to support the Guild as well as CASA.  With the crazy schedules we have, many of us moms of multiple kids, to spend an entire school day at an event supporting other local children, instead of doing our usual grocery shopping, laundry, errands, and random daily minutia, was wonderful.

I was thrilled to meet and photograph Kristi Yamaguchi who emceed the fashion show.  She was a fabulous addition to the day which also consisted of a silent auction, holiday bazaar and luncheon.  I enjoyed meeting and photographing old and new friends.

If you’re local and would like to volunteer with an amazing group of women in supporting local needs in our community, consider joining Danville Children’s Guild.

Yes, it’s another edition of Fifty-two Fridays.  It’s hard to believe how close to the end of the year it is.  Have you started your holiday shopping yet?  I hope the answer is no.  Misery loves company, as they say.  So much to do.  So little time.  But I’m so excited for Thanksgiving, another one of my favorite holidays.  I hope you are too.

This week’s theme:

Little & Big

This is our “littlest” Little and our furry Big.  It took quite a bit of Costco cheese bread (which is yummy, btw, and not something I would generally recommend indulging your dog with but sometimes you gotta do whatcha  gotta do) to get Molly to cooperate but we ended up with this.

The circle continues with Miss Maureen Wilson | Mccomb Mississippi Photographer who has the cutest southern accent ever.
