My two girls | Danville Lifestyle Photographer

January 17, 2012

I adore the time between the holidays and spring.  It’s the “slow season” for most photographers and for me it’s the time I get to spend more time with my family.  I’ve made it a goal this year to balance my business and personal life better so I’m starting here on my blog.

These are my two girls.  They both have the best. hair. ever.  I’d like to say bribery was not involved in this little session, but that would be a lie.  We did have to whip out the peanut butter jar for a few of these shots.  I love how they turned out.

{elevate} a fine art exploration | January | Danville Senior Photographer

January 16, 2012

Created by Nichole Van, I’m collaborating with a handful of talented photographers in a project to explore fine art every month.  What is “fine art photography”?  That’s been a subject of debate lately on the Bloom Forum as well as in our blog circle.  I’ve been contemplating this and doing a little research to find my own answers.  One thing that I’ve been thinking about is the idea that often fine art is something that evokes wonder in the viewer.  The piece might ask a question or cause you to take a second or third look.  I like the idea that two people could look at the same piece and come away with totally different thoughts or feelings about it.

With that in mind, here is my image for this month.

Join me in exploring the circle this month starting with Maureen Wilson | Mccomb Mississippi Photographer and continuing on until you find yourself right back  where you started.

Nick | Class of 2012 | Danville California Senior Photographer

December 8, 2011

My sister and her family were In Danville over Thanksgiving and you know what that means.  Lots of photo ops!  We had  THIS spur-of-the-moment nighttime session with a tangle of Christmas lights, followed up with a daytime family session (soon to be blogged), and finally my nephew Nick asked if I would take his senior pictures while he was in town.  Of course, I was thrilled to spend some one-on-one time with him!  He is the oldest grandchild in my family and my first nephew.  I remember when he was just a baby and our families lived just down the road from each other.  My husband and I didn’t have kids yet and I remember how fun it was to hang out at their house and play with the new baby.  He was round and cute and loved to eat!  When we had Maddy the following year, they became fast friends and have had a special bond ever since.

I can’t even begin to comprehend the fact that Nick is a senior this year.  The time has flown by!  He’s in the midst of applications and letters of recommendation and lots of pressure from the rest of us to find out where he’ll be going.  Not to embarrass him, but without studying he earned a perfect score in English on his ACT and nearly the same on the Math portion.  And not only is he academically gifted, he has an amazing singing voice, has a kind heart, and is genuinely nice to his three sisters.  I love him to pieces and can’t wait to see what the future holds for him!

Fifty-two Fridays | BLACK | Danville, California Photographer

November 25, 2011

Wishing everyone a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!

Our theme this week:

Black

This was taken during our weekend get-away to Santa Monica.  My awesome husband humored me by posing under the pier for a few pictures.  I love this one in black and white.

November | {Elevate} A Fine Art Exploration | Danville California Photographer

November 14, 2011

This project feels like Christmas morning every month when it rolls around.  I love it for so many reasons.  I am fortunate enough to share this project with the amazing talents of  Maureen Wilson,  Jules Trandem, Brenda Acuncius, Nichole Van, Stacey Woods, Gina Oh, Marianne Drenthe, Jefra Starr Linn, Martha Schuster, Jennifer Nguyen, Kamee June, Tamara Burross, and Andrea Tate.  The pressure of creating something worthy of this circle motivates me every month.  But my favorite part of this project has been the opportunity to try new things.  When I create images for clients, my work remains consistent so that clients can see my “style” and know what they can expect.  But when I work on personal projects, it’s my opportunity to play around with new methods in-camera and in post production.

Last month I worked with several different images to blend them into one composite with a nod to the supernatural for the month of Halloween.  Here in California November is the beginning of the rainy season so I wanted to create something consistent with this season.  I knew I wanted to do a black and white in the rain so I took my muse out, at the first sign of rain, to this very cool bridge.  Once I began the editing process, I decided to experiment with some of the tools I rarely, if ever, use.  After many hours and much trial and error the resulting image included the use of  the artistic paint daubs filter.  I really like the way it turned out and may just have this printed for my wall.

Join me as I visit the amazing talent in our group starting with Nichole Van | Utah Portrait and Wedding Photographer.

Happy Monday!
