When I opened Ali Crane’s photos to write this post, I was so happy to see Legos.  It felt like home.  We are so inundated with those tiny pieces at our house, I’m considering a new project all about how to organize and display Legos.  Anyone with me?  I’m adding Ali to my list of  friends whose homes I adore.  She’s my neighbor and I can tell we are going to have to do a meet-up sometime very soon.  I adore that hallway gallery of matted black and white prints and that adorable monogram pillow!  Take a look… 

Part of the reason I fell in love with photography is its ability to capture not only how someone looked at a given time but how a moment felt long after it has passed.  As my children grow, the photos that fill my home bring me back to their early curls, their belly laughs, the babies who have long since grown up.

For many years, in my living room above the couch I had a display of 6 framed and matted 8 x 10s.   Recently, we gave the living room a fresh coat of paint and I replaced those images with a 30 x 40 canvas.  On the console, I keep a collection of images in coordinated but not identical frames which are easy to change out.  I love that this collection gives me a place to display some favorite images without the commitment to an art piece.

When I took down the 8 x 10s in my living room, I still wanted to display those prints.  This series in our hallway has an image of each of my children as infants.  (top images courtesy of Jonathan Payne Photography).

The remaining prints line one side of the hallway in our master bedroom.  On the other side, I have a series of 11 x 14 gallery wrapped canvases in black and white, again, one of each child.

My girls share a room and I knew I wanted images of them to be an integral part of their space.  The largest displays are a 20 x 30 gallery wrapped canvas over their desk and a series of 8 X 10s in contrasting orientations lining the wall above their storage unit (along with a lot of Harry Potter Legos).  Other smaller, framed images are on the shelves and on other locations around the room.

Lastly, this 20 x 30 gallery wrapped hangs over my son’s bed.  Some smaller, framed prints line the window on the opposite wall.

This project was the impetus to get the canvases in both of the bedrooms ordered and hung so I am so grateful to Wendy for including me.  I am also glad that I still have some empty walls to incorporate some of the wonderful ideas I’ve picked up over the past several weeks!
