I soooo enjoyed last weekend’s holiday mini sessions.  Each family was styled impeccably and all of the kids were thrilled to be on a ranch in the presence of real life cows.  Our good friends who own the Broken Tongue Land and Livestock Ranch in Danville, allowed us access to their beautiful old pick-up trucks and majestic oak trees for the afternoon.  And what a gorgeous evening we had.  We couldn’t have asked for more.

Here’s just one from my first family last weekend.  Seriously.  Who looks that good after four kids?!  You may recognize Baby Harris from his newborn session a while back.  They are truly the sweetest and happiest family.

There are still a few slots open for my second day of mini sessions, November 5th.  These will be held in a grassy field on an antique wrought-iron bed.  I am so excited!!!  Contact me if you want to snag one of the two remaining slots!  wendy@wendyvonsosen.com.

Happy Wednesday!

This year I’ve teamed up with 19 fabulously talented photographers in a project called Fifty-Two Fridays.  Each week we have a theme and our challenge is to post an image that best represents that theme.  Every week the end of the year is creeping closer and closer and I continue to be inspired and pushed creatively by my fellow photographers.

This week’s theme:

Morning

I have to give all the credit for today’s image to the photographer that I most admire and want to be when I grow up, Stephanie Rausser.  Is it possible to become someone else when you grow up, even if that person is most likely younger than you?  If so, put me down for becoming Stephanie because her work inspires me, amazes me, and makes me happy.  If you aren’t familiar with her work, stop by her website and be happy with me.  Her lifestyle and editorial approach to photography is phenomenal!  It’s like you stepped out of your own world of commitments and errands and responsibilities and into a world of joy and bright colors and laughter.  Her website , with its shuffling of images, is enough to mesmerize for hours.  And while you’re there, you’ll happen upon an image much like the one below, though much better.  I loved it so much that about a month ago I attempted to recreate it with my own dog, my own bed, and my own undies (the undies my husband claims he’s not at all familiar with).  I filed it away on my computer and forgot about it until today when I realized I hadn’t shot anything specifically for this week’s theme.  It’s been one of those weeks!  So I brought it out, dusted it off and am sharing it in honor of Stephanie Rausser.

Come with me as I make my way around the circle of good mornings starting with  Sara Tegman | St. Louis Photographer.

Happy Friday and Happy Weekending!

It’s time again to be inspired by the generosity of our fellow photographers.  This week we’re visiting Jenny Froh of Jenny Froh Photography who donates  her spare time  helping our furry counterparts find new homes.

Who is Jenny Froh?

Jenny Froh of Jenny Froh Photography is a professional pet and portrait photographer serving the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex and is a member of HeARTs Speak, a non-profit organization working to unite the individual efforts of animal artists and animal rescues into collective action for social change.

 Tell us about your project.

I thoroughly enjoy giving back to my community by volunteering my photography services to non-profit animal rescues, which include Humane Society of Flower Mound, DFW Pug Rescue, Great Plains Mastiff Rescue, and American Bullmastiff Rescue Association. I volunteer to photograph dogs or cats that are in the Rescue’s care to help find them find foster and/or permanent homes. Knowing that I played even a small part in helping an animal is a wonderful feeling.

What effect has giving back had on you as a person and a photographer?

During the time I’ve been volunteering, I’ve met so many incredible and caring people. I have expanded my personal network of friends and therefore my business client base as well.   To my surprise though, volunteering has helped my career in ways other than expanding my market. My rescue work has landed my photography on the cover of the Sept/Oct issue of Bark Magazine.  One of my rescue photographs is also a finalist in Art+Bark photo contest and on display at the Houston Pavilions throughout the month of October and will be published in Life+Dog Magazine.

As an animal lover and advocate, volunteering to help the helpless is a reward within itself. It’s incredibly gratifying to be a part of finding a home for an animal that wants only to be loved. I highly encourage everyone to pick something you’re passionate about and help out in your community!  You’ll reap rewards you never imagined.

Jenny, thank you for your grace in giving back to your community through the gift of photography!

If you know of anyone who is “giving back” through the gift of photography, please email me at wendy@wendyvonsosen.com.   I would love to feature them.

Happy Tuesday!

To learn more about this project we call “{elevate} a fine art photography exploration”, take a peek at September’s post.

I can not tell you how much this {elevate} project has pushed me to stretch my creative self and challenged me to think outside the box.  I thoroughly enjoy spending hours on a single image to get it “just so”.  At first I thought I would enjoy the fact that there are no monthly themes for this project, but that has actually been really challenging as I tend to need at least a little direction to get my gears in motion.   But since this is October, I wanted to create something in the spirit of Halloween.  Something a little bit “off”.  Something a little bit dark.  Something a little bit “paranormal”.  Don’t you sometimes feel like somebody’s watching you???

Happy October!

This week’s theme:

Beauty

As I thought about the theme this week, there were so many directions I could go.  I find beauty in  many things.  I considered featuring my kids because they are the epitome of beauty to me, as I’m sure your kids are to those of you who have kids.  But instead, I decided to step out of my comfort zone and shoot something that I kind of, sort of really dislike shooting.  Landscape/still life.  I have never and probably will never claim to be a landscape/still life photographer. I’d rather photograph people any day.  But I chose landscape because I’m lucky enough to live in a beautiful area of the country with the golden hills surrounding our little town and old oaks dotting the landscape.  I’m able to walk out my front door everyday and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors.  It’s one of my favorite parts of living in the Bay Area.  It truly epitomizes beauty.  I wanted to document the beauty of this area as the seasons begin to change from summer to fall.

Processed with my favorite Florabella textures from the Luxe II Collection.

I can not wait to make the circle this week to enjoy the beauty that my friends have posted, starting with a little bit of magic from Maureen Wilson | Mccomb Mississippi photographer.  Come join me!
