Bright ColorsThis year I’ve teamed up with 19 fabulously talented photographers in a project called Fifty-Two Fridays.  Each week we have a theme and our challenge is to post an image that best represents that theme.  We are more than half-way through the year and I continue to be inspired and pushed creatively by my fellow photographers.

This week’s theme is Bright Colors.  Honestly I was stumped on what to do this week until today.  Our good friend Emily is in town again visiting from Idaho so we decided to take her back to our favorite Bay Area beach down by the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay.  Of course I brought my camera again.  And of course as soon as we arrived, we discovered the blanket of fog that usually burns off was still hanging on at 3:00 on the afternoon.  Gotta love Northern California beaches.  But the chill in the air and the ice cold water didn’t stop the kids from getting right in to the water, so I got the camera out and just started shooting.  Fortunately for the theme this week, the girls were wearing bright colors.  Fortunately for me, the lack of a blue sky in addition to the white foam of the gigantic waves helped those bright colors stand out.

A few more of these two goof balls.  More to come of the rest of the gang later.

We are finally officially in our new house.  And we LOVE it! We celebrated with a little birthday party for my Will last night who turned 7 in the middle of the moving chaos.  It was great to sit back and relax for a few hours.  We had my sister’s family over as well as our cute friend Emily who is visiting from Idaho.

A little bit of swimming.

A little bit of barbequing.

A little bit of cake.

And a little bit of Hudson, 2 year-old my nephew.

After the festivities, he found his way up to our bedroom and was having the best time rolling around on my bed.  The evening light was beautiful so I grabbed my camera and shot a little bit of Hudson.  Although they aren’t (technically) perfect, the moment was, and ultimately that’s what counts the most.

Now get out your camera and go shoot your kids today! (With a camera, of course.)

Surprisingly, this project is still going strong!  This is about the time of year that my Project 365 died a quick and painless death last year.  I know it’s because of the 19 other photographers that help push me along creatively every week, that I still look forward to each and every theme.  Some weeks are harder than others.

This week, our theme is FRUIT.  Seeing as how we moved into our new house TWO days ago and I have yet to do an official trip to the grocery store to stock the pantry, I was very low on actual fruit that I could photograph.  LUCKILY our yard has a lemon tree.  I scouted out the tree and found one lonely lemon ripe and ready for picking.  I gathered up the boys from the pool and asked them to each take a taste of it.  This is what I heard:

“Moooommmmm, do I have to eat the whole thing?”

“Ewwww, yuck!  I HATE fruit!”

and

“That’s cool…  I love lemons…  I can totally do this.  Lemon aren’t sour at all to me.”

Can you guess which kid said  what?

What a crazy but exciting week we’re facing at the VonSosen’s.  We are so excited to leave “the  cave” behind this week as we move into our new home just a few miles down the road from us.  So many things to do before then.  We arrived home from visiting friends and family in Utah last night and I should have gone right to bed, but I couldn’t wait to edit a few from a session I had with this fabulous family.  She is my good friend and contacted me a few months ago about doing a vintage styled family session while we were in town.  She scoured the Valley and found wonderful depression-era clothing for everyone along with an amazing vintage car.

I wanted to post a few here for her before my house gets packed up and moved across town.  So, enjoy!  And more to come a little later!

I promise we had more fun than the kids are letting on!  These were their “serious” faces.  Most of the time they looked like this:

Happy Monday!!!
