Sneak Peek: The M family

October 31, 2009

It isn’t often that I get to work with a family that will willingly climb a tree to get a shot.  And it wasn’t even my idea!

Kudos to these guys.  Despite the chilly weather and early hour, we were able to get some fun pictures of them for the holidays.

Thanks for a fun morning and for introducing me to a new location.

Enjoy your sneak peek!

Sneak Peek: Josh

October 31, 2009

I had my first senior shoot this afternoon and, holy cow, was it ever fun!

Josh was so easy going and laid back.  He was a natural at posing and was “super” easy to shoot.

I think I could get used to seniors.  :)

Josh, enjoy your sneak peek.  I’ll have your gallery up and ready soon.

FacesFixIt

I love fix-it fridays because editing is one of my favorite parts of of photography.

And since I started Phaunt U last week, I’ve learned a few things I didn’t know before about Photoshop.  Fix-it Fridays gives me yet another photo to try out what I’ve learned.

Original:

My workflow:

1.  Duplicate image

2.  Curves adjustment and color balance to correct skin tones.

3.  Ran Secret’s basic colr

4.  Patch tool to get rid of bruises, paint, and under eye circles

5.  Bumped up the saturation

6.  High pass over eyes and lips at 50%

7.  Added Kaleidoscope’s flare texture hard light layer at 50%

8.  Added a flare brush.

9.  Noiseware to smooth skin

10.  Sharpened for web

If the weather holds out I’m taking the kids to attempt our Christmas card pics.  Considering it snowed yesterday, that may or may not happen.  I’ve also got a senior and a family to shoot this weekend.  And let’s not forget Halloween!  Think good weather thoughts!!!

Happy Halloween!!!!

Just in time for Halloween!

This was last year’s costume but it makes it’s appearance every so often throughout the year.

You can never get enough Darth, right?

Sneak Peek: The B family

October 24, 2009

I’ve been hoping to find a family willing to get down and dirty for an urban shoot in the “big city”.

I finally found one.

This cute little family was up for anything.  So we took a stroll through some alleys and along some city streets and even into a catholic cathedral and shot along the way.  They were troopers, despite a blustery wind and chilly temperatures.

B family, enjoy your sneak peek!

(Oh, and next time we meet, I would like to hear a little opera, Andreas)

Happy Friday!

When I saw these on Amy Locurto’s blog Living Locurto, I knew I needed to make them for the women I visit each month.

I even had enough left for my kids to munch on after school.

Go check out Amy’s awesome blog for the instructions.  She is co-founder of my favorite photography blog iheartfaces.  She’s a graphic designer as well as a fabulous photographer and has lots and lots of free downloads on her blog.

I’ve got two shoots this weekend including my very first urban family shoot.  I’m super excited and hope to have a sneak peek up in a couple of days.

Happy Weekending!

The Big Question…

October 21, 2009

What are you going to be for Halloween???

In an attempt to decide, the boys talked me in to going costume shopping yesterday.

So we hit the warehouse and found all kinds of silly and gruesome and frightfully fun things to explore.

I think we’ve got it nailed down now.

We’ll have a ‘true jedi’, one Mr. Ron Weasley, and a toy slayer (whatever that is).

What are you going to be for Halloween???

Remember Baby T from this session?

Well, she brought the rest of her family back for another session.  She even gave us a few smiles today.  Maybe the sunshine and 70 degree weather had something to do with it.  Or it could have been the bright fall colors.  Or maybe it was her two crazy brothers and their wrestling matches.

I dunno.  All I know is that they were tons of fun to shoot.

Enjoy your sneak peek!

Sneak Peek: Baby T

October 16, 2009

What an even-tempered, alert little girl I got to shoot today.  She was up for everything we threw at her without much of a fuss.  She even tried on my new hat.  What more can you ask for from a 2 month-old, right?

Enjoy your sneak peek, Mom.

It was chilly!

October 10, 2009

Nope.  It was downright cold.

But these guys were TROUPERS I tell ya, TROUPERS!

Such a fun family to spend a few hours with this afternoon.  These kids are a.dor.a.ble!

Despite shivering through much of the shoot, we were able to get some cute shots of these guys.

Here is a sneak peek…

My fixes:
boy in blue collage

1. Color corrected with curves and color balance sliders. Using the patch tool I cleaned up his face a little. Lassoed teeth and eyes and brightened using a curves layer.  High pass layered his eyes to 50%. Brightened the overall pic and then cropped to 5×7.

2. On top of #1 I used A Day at the Beach – warm wash and adjusted the layers to taste.

3. On top of #1 I used Secret Actions 1973 action with a contrast curves layer.

4. On top of #1 I used Secret Actions Bright and Airy Black and White conversion and adjusted the contrast.

On all of them I used Noiseware to smooth and then I sharpened them for web.

I’m excited to be all booked up for October! I have families, a senior, lots of kids, and some babies scheduled for this month. I’m off to get ready for my first one tomorrow. I’ll post a sneak peak this weekend.

pumpkin

Apparently we have a little green in our thumbs after all.

Our garden yielded 24 pumpkins this year!!!

We harvested yesterday.  It was downright cold.  I had to put a coat on for the first time this year!

And this is the first time I did not have to BUY cornstalks to decorate the front porch.

house frontdoorwayporch

I made homemade breadsticks and corn chowder and we watched General Conference all day.  The only time I set foot outside was to take these pictures.

I LOVE fall!
