Thankful Thursday – 80s Edition

October 30, 2008

So, this post serves two purposes.

It’s my first official Thankful Thursday post where I share a few random things I’m thankful for every Thursday. And since I’m participating in this “totally rad” event today, it’s my contribution to memories of the 80s.

Today I’m thankful that I have evolved from this 15 year-old girl.

The year was 1985. The trend apparently (for me anyway) was over-sized cable knit wool sweaters with huge mock turtlenecks. Accessorized with loads of matching teal sparky eyeliner extended out the sides to give the appearance of large eyes.

This was before my obsession with perms. I was accentuating my hair’s natural tendency toward wave and frizz. I must have relied heavily on my blow dryer to create wings off the sides and feathered bangs down the center.

Obviously it was also before I discovered my now-coveted pair of tweezers. Our family has an unbelievable propensity toward massive eyebrows. (But I’ll save that for another post).

And oh… the teeth. Whitening toothpaste is another essential in my personal hygiene regiment. Not so back then. Floss. Unaccounted for as well as you can see something black stuck between my eye tooth and first molar.

Sigh…

I am thankful this day that I no longer look like that. Just to prove it -

GASP! That woman could almost be her mother!

Have a great Thankful Thursday!

I would of missed the thing in the teeth, if you wouldn’t of said anything! lol

I totally had that sweater in every color.

Ok, I looked better in the 80′s then I do now, but you look better now. No Fair! lol

Yes–You HAVE come a long way! I had to discover the tweezers and white strips before I came into my own too ;) !

Loved both the pictures :) !

And I read to the bottom of the page—your Halloween decorations look smashing!

    YES!! TWEEZERS!!

Why oh why did we not know about those back then??

I want to tweeze my 5 year old son’s eyebrows– is that bad?

    Yes shally… that’s bad.

Perms…. that brings back some painful memories of burnt scalps and impossible tangles.

Oh I didn’t even think of tweezers in the 80′s. My eyebrows were so bushy!!

I loved over sized sweaters too!

I think you look great now. And you did back then too! I don’t think anyone plucked then.

That’s too funny. As I scrolled by the picture of the new you, I was thinking to myself, “Wow, she looks a little like her mother.”

I love the teal eyeliner . . . it takes me back a few years.

I still have a sweater in that color…it was my favorite! At least you got to wear the matching blue eyeliner and mascara! Thanks for sharing in the 80′s day!

You have GREAT brows. I actually come from the “lack of” brow family. Of course I have played around with the tweezer and now have very screwy brows. One day I will go somewhere and get the help I need in that department.

LOVE the 80′s look. I too did that wing look. First you blew your hair, sprayed on some “Stiff Stuff” and then blew a little more to get that really crisp look ;)

I do see so many of the styles from my HS days coming back. Just the other day I caught sight of some long sweatshirts that you pair up with stir-ups or leggings (that was my going to class look in college).

I love your blast from the past posts!

Wenderful, I love the eighties versus today shot. I never ever get tired of them. Thanks for posting yours. I saw some stirrup pants in TJ Maxx today that I’d be happy to send to you….
