I came over from BATW to see what I had missed this week. We decided to HS our oldest this year. He is 11 in 7th grade- and doing 9th grade math. Last year was just miserable for him- and by extension, me too. He would come home and rage at me for the day he had had at PS. This year I have gotten my happy boy back because he is no longer dealing with "other junk."
I don't even really have to teach him. He is proving to be a self starter. I make his lesson plan and he does it.
I totally agree that none of our 5 kids are not average. Nor are they the same. They are each "just right."

I enjoyed your interview over on Gab's blog. Kudos on all your efforts (and for not hiding under the covers)--it sounds like you are doing the right thing for your family.

Thanks so much for being so true and honest, Wendy! I think most people are intimidated by homeschool moms...you make it look fun, easy and do-able. I love that.

That was a great interview. I really went about homeschooling in a similar way. I also get that middle school point very well ... not my favorite time to have children in traditional school.

I also think it is great that you look at your children individually. None of us birth the same cookie cutter child. They all learn differently and their personalities reflect that they are INDIVIDUALS.

My favorite point was when you said ... "My theory is that socially awkward parents begat socially awkward kids. And vice versa. Homeschooling in and of itself does not create bizarro kids." THAT IS SO TRUE!

I left a comment over at the post, but thought I'd tell you directly :o) I'm a homeschool graduate, and I will be homeschooling my girls when they hit school age. I loved your interview, I loved your honesty! It's so nice to see a down-to-earth mama letting everybody in for a glimpse of what happens inside a homeschooling home.

Thanks so much for doing this! :o)
